For UK manufacturers & engineering job shops

If your factory can't run a week without you, it isn't a business. It's a job that owns you.

Freehold gives you your evenings back — by building a business that runs, and pays you, without you in the room. Start with your number: how free you actually are, and what being the bottleneck costs you a year.

24 questions · about ten minutes · your score appears on screen — no email needed to see it

A fitter checking a machined part with calipers over engineering drawings on the floor of a UK metal fabrication workshop

You've probably weighed the usual routes out

A consultant on £1,200 a day Fixes it while they're there. Then leaves, and it drifts back to you.
A coach who's never seen a shop floor Good questions, generic answers. Doesn't know turnbacks from setters.
A course you'll never finish Sits in a tab. Knowing the theory was never the problem.

Every one of them is dear, generic, or homework. Freehold is the method itself — proven on hundreds of UK shop floors — that you install on your own, for £50. Start by finding your number, free.

The Owner's Trap

You didn't set out to build a business you couldn't leave.

Nobody does. But if a week away means running the place from a caravan awning with a laptop propped on a cool-box — you already know the shape of it. See how many of these you recognise.

A manufacturing business owner standing on his workshop floor, arms folded, while a welder works behind him

"Everything comes through me."

Run a Decision Log for one week and count them. Most of what reaches your desk is a repeat you've already answered a hundred times.

"I haven't had a proper holiday in years."

And when you do go, you take the business with you. The signal, the quotes, the "just in case" file.

"It's quicker if I just do it myself."

The most expensive sentence in your business. It's why the work keeps coming back to you.

"My team don't take ownership."

Usually it isn't the people. It's that the rules live in your head — so everything has to come back to you.

"We're busy, but the margin's slipping."

Turnbacks creeping up, quotes coming in under true cost, and no clear line of sight on either.

"What's it even worth without me?"

A buyer's honest answer is: less than you think. When the business is you, they're buying a job, not an asset.

You can't escape a trap you don't understand. The first step is seeing it clearly — and putting a number on it.

The Freehold Score™ · free

One number that says how free you actually are.

Twenty-four straight questions about how your business really runs — who decides, who's covered, where the money leaks. Ten minutes gets you your score out of 100, the one thing to fix first, and — if you want it — what the leak is costing you in pounds, per year.

Every business lands in one of four bands. Which one are you?

Trapped
0–39

The business owns you. The work is to make the plan and the numbers visible.

Grinding
40–59

On top of it — but only because you never stop. Plug the leaks, share the load.

Building
60–79

Foundations hold. Hand over cleanly so it runs without you in the room.

Freehold
80–100

It runs, profits and grows without you. Protect the value and keep it transferable.

The Business That Runs Without You

The most acute pain first: everything coming through you, and no way to put the business down for a week. This kit gets your repeated decisions off your desk and proves it with a test — your first fully unreachable day in years.

  • The playbook — the full method, in plain English, built to be read on a screen in the evening after a long day.
  • The Decision Log — one week of evidence that shows exactly why you're exhausted, and what to hand over first.
  • Handover Rule cards — 20 cards (10 worked, 10 blank): "If X happens, do Y. Don't ask me."
  • The Only-You Audit — separate what's genuinely yours from what's just habit.
  • The One-Page Way & One-Number sheet — capture the skill trapped in someone's head; give every handed-over job a heartbeat.
  • The Freedom Test (Levels 1–4) — from one unreachable day to a fortnight away, with checklists for each.
  • 30-Day Install Plan — week-by-week, so the method turns into action instead of good intentions.
  • Tool-walkthrough videos — watch each tool run before you run it yourself.
The 30-day promise. Run the Decision Log week, install your first handover rules, and take a full day unreachable inside 30 days — or tell me it didn't work and I'll make it right.

About Lee

I didn't learn this in a classroom. I learned it on factory floors.

Hundreds of them, over twenty-five years. I started in aerospace and defence — where getting it wrong isn't an option — as a divisional lean leader, driving continuous-flow improvements and rebuilding assembly cells supplying fuel systems for the Airbus A320.

For the past decade I've worked as a senior lean consultant transforming British SME manufacturers: a moulding firm saving five figures a month; a modular-build company that multiplied its daily output several times over; a plant's output doubled with the same headcount, winning work back from overseas; a joinery's line lifted by half with no more space or staff.

But the thing I'm proudest of is simpler: owners who got their evenings back. That's what Freehold is for.

What it looks like when it works

Owners who got their evenings back.

Not bigger numbers on a slide — quiet weekends, proper holidays, and a business that runs while they're not in the room.

"

Six of us, and everything ran through me — no clear week off in years. We promoted one of the team to run the workshop, set plain rules for what they handle and what comes to me, and put the day's jobs on a board everyone can see. Six months in: turnbacks down, margin healthier, and for the first time I believe I can take proper time away and the place will hold.

Owner, small joinery firm, South of England
"

I took over from the previous generation young, and I was drowning in the day-to-day. We built the boards, the stand-ups and the rules so the team carries on until they actually need me. Now I walk the whole business in half an hour each morning and know the few things that need me. Best consultancy I've ever had.

Managing Director, ironmongery manufacturer, South West
"

Firefighting daily, customers piling on the pressure, investors close to walking. We fixed the processes, set the rules, and got the lines running so management could step back. Output multiplied, the directors ran it without me in the middle of everything — and in the end the business sold as a profitable going concern.

Before you ask

Straight answers for sceptics.

Are those testimonials real?

They're composites — real firms, real results, details changed, because I'm bound by client confidentiality. That's also why you won't see logos. What you can verify: me, by name, on LinkedIn, and twenty-five years of shop-floor work. I'd rather be straight about that than invent names.

Is the free Score just a funnel?

It's the front door, yes. But your score, your band and your first moves appear on screen without giving an email — the emailed report is optional. If you never spend a penny, you still walk away knowing your number and what to fix first.

What if the kit doesn't work for my business?

The 30-day promise: run the Decision Log week, install your first handover rules, and take a full day unreachable inside 30 days — or tell me it didn't work and I'll make it right.

Find out how free you actually are.

Ten minutes. No cost. No sales call. You'll walk away with your Freehold Score, the thing holding you back, and the real cost of staying trapped — whether or not you ever buy a thing.
